Important dates for October
On October 11th, 2021, Columbus Day marks one of the two major holidays of the month. Alternatively, Columbus Day is known as Indigenous People’s Day, which is another notable event on the same date.

Why was it named October?
October should’ve been the eighth month of the year as it was in the ancient calendars of Romulus, which dates back to 750 BC. However, the months January and February came into the scene and rearranged the order of the months, making October the tenth month in the yearly calendar.
From the Latin and Greek word ôctō, which means “eight”, there is no denying that October should live up to its label. The Julian and Gregorian calendars seem to think otherwise, finalizing October on its tenth placement.
Among seven months to have 31 days in the monthly calendar, October is the sixth one.
October is memorable when it comes to its contradicting seasons, hemisphere-wise. Autumn is associated with October in many parts of the Northern Hemisphere. At the same time, the Southern Hemisphere is in the spring season, which happens in April up above.
October and the famous “sports equinox.”
During the last two or three weeks of October, the “Big Four” major professional sports leagues simultaneously have their League Championship Series and World Series. Until now, it still fascinates sports fans. (Talk about needing an October 2021 Calendar to be on track of the latest sports happenings.)
To break it down, the National Basketball Association is commencing its preseason games, which is around two weeks before the regular season. At the same period, the National Hockey League in Canada is about a month leading to their regular season, with the National Football League on its season’s half leg. Meanwhile, Major League Baseball will be on its postseason by that time.
Calling it a sports festivity is an understatement, given that was an instance where 19 of all four leagues played simultaneously on the same day, with history calling it “sports equinox”.
